Long, long ago, a hardy and experienced potter
from the Rilla village of Yakorouda (which is a town today) was
travelling on his horse, laden with earthenware goods, towards
Samokov. It was the month of August and the potter was hurrying
to cross the summit between Youroushki Chal and Nalbant. When
the potter reached the lake to the east of 'the saddle', a ferrocious
storm arose. The potter and his horse perished. This halfway point
at which the potter died has been named Grunchar (potter) by the
mountain people, and has been known by that name ever since. For
good measure, the lake, Gruncharsko, and a stream, Gruncharitsa,
have also been titled in his honour.
